Boat trip from Palermo to Mondello and Capo Gallo: snorkelling or caves, and which boat?
Updated October 13, 2026 · 5 min read
For most visitors the Boat Tour Mondello, Capo Gallo Reserve, with drink is the one to book: €76.50 per person for four hours, 4.9 stars from 766 reviews, a small group, snacks and a drink, and snorkelling masks provided. If you would rather have a shorter, faster trip in a RIB with a drink for €50, there is a three-hour option. The full-day boat is a different animal and only worth it for keen snorkellers.
What the trip actually is
The standard boat trip from Palermo is a half-day cruise along the coast to the north-west of the city, to Mondello Bay and the Capo Gallo nature reserve. You sail out from the tourist port, pass the headland, stop to swim and snorkel in clear water, and come back. Two listings mention caves and coves that can only be reached from the sea. One names the Queen’s Caves.
That is the whole format. What differs between the listings is the boat, the length, what you eat and drink, and whether swimming and snorkelling or the caves lead the description.
The boat trips compared
| Boat trip | Duration | From | Rating | Reviews | What stands out |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Boat Tour Mondello, Capo Gallo Reserve, with drink | 4 hours | €76.50 | 4.9 | 766 | Small group, snacks, masks provided |
| Shared Tour with Snacks and Snorkeling | 4 hours | €79.20 | 4.9 | 1,105 | The most-reviewed boat trip from Palermo |
| Boat Tour with Aperitif, Snorkeling and Cave Tour | 4 hours | €80.10 | 4.7 | 627 | Queen’s Caves, aperitif |
| Boat Tour Mondello – Capo Gallo with Drink and More | 3 hours | €50 | 4.8 | 233 | RIB, snack and one drink |
| Full-Day Snorkeling Boat Tour with Lunch and Wine | 8 hours | €110 | 5.0 | 475 | Led by a marine biologist, lunch |
Snorkelling or caves
If swimming and snorkelling are the goal, the four-hour trips are the right length: they leave time in the water, and one of the listings says masks are provided. The Capo Gallo reserve is a protected marine area, and the operator, not you, decides where the boat may stop, so do not expect to pick your own spot.
If the caves are the point, look at the aperitif and cave tour at €80.10, whose listing names the Queen’s Caves. One caveat: none of the descriptions says whether you swim into the caves or look at them from the boat. Treat that as an open question and check the listing or ask the operator before paying, particularly if sea caves are your main reason for booking.

RIB or shared boat
The €50 trip is on a luxury RIB, a rigid inflatable boat: fast, low to the water, with a snack and one drink. It is the better choice if you have limited time or only want the coast and the views.
Two of the four-hour trips are described as shared or small-group boat trips and leave more time for snorkelling and for the aperitif or snacks. The price difference between the RIB and the standard boat is about €26 to €30, and you get an extra hour. That is a sensible trade for most people.
The full-day option
The 8-hour snorkelling trip at €110 has the best rating on the list, 5.0, from 475 reviews, and is led by a marine biologist, with lunch and wine on board. It is for people who want more time in the water than a half-day gives, and it is about €34 more than the cheapest four-hour boat. If you are mainly after a pleasant few hours at sea, you do not need it.
What to check before you book
The departure point is the tourist port of Palermo in at least one listing; confirm the meeting point on the booking page, as it differs between operators. Bring a swimsuit, a towel and sun protection, and read the cancellation terms on the booking page, which say what happens if the sea is too rough to sail. Anyone with a medical question about seasickness should speak to a pharmacist or doctor before travelling.

Our recommendation for most visitors is the Boat Tour Mondello, Capo Gallo Reserve, with drink: it is built around the reserve, it is rated 4.9, and four hours leaves real time in the water.
